Village call for independent audit of unelected, unaccountable
community group — Residents Voice
Financial audit to determine source of funding
LAKE FOREST, Calif. (Oct. 11, 2007)—Professional Community Management of California, Inc. and residents of Laguna Woods Village, are calling for an independent audit of the unelected and as of yet, unaccountable, community group - Residents Voice.
Residents Voice, a relatively small group of residents, recently purchased a series of print advertisements in a regional newspaper. The cost of the advertisements and the fact that the group's leaders claim to have raised that cost in three days by resident donations, has raised the concern that an outside interest, with possibly a monetary gain in mind, may be behind the group.
"We believe it is in the best interest of the community members that we get to the bottom of who is funding this organization," said Russ Disbro, CEO of PCM of California. "I find it hard to believe that they paid for all these ads on their own."
The group's organizational structure and finances are unclear as newspaper reports seem to indicate the group has no license of any kind to act as an organization and take in or spend funds. A financial audit would clear up several questions, among them:
"This group has repeatedly attacked the elected leaders of the community and called into question the ethics and financial actions of them and the management-company. This is hurting the community," said Pat Whitson, a 9-year resident of Laguna Woods Village. "If they have nothing to hide, let them submit to an audit and prove it. Until then there will be questions about how this organization operates and who is funding it."
